A new theme…

I’ve updated the theme to use Punchcut – I hope you like it! I was motivated to change because I wanted something softer, and I noticed that the sites whose typography I admire used a screen-suited serif font, with lots of white space, generous line height, and set ragged-right (rather than justified: because browsers and other automatic systems don’t do a very good job of justifying text.)

  1. The new theme is nice, but it is rendering a little strange for me in the comments sections. In area’s where the comments have multiple replies and the text area is small, the text seems to break free from it’s box and just overlay itself over everything else. I can send you a screenshot if you provide me with an email address. I’m using Firefox 4.0, so I’m not sure how it renders in IE or other browsers.

  2. Dear Bhante,

So far I like it! But I am a low tech layperson!
May I take this opportunity to share a link?

    The Elders – (the other Theras/Theris 🙂 http://theelders.org/elders

The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by Nelson Mandela, (Ela Bhatt, Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Mary Robinson, Gro Bruntland etc) who offer their collective influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity.

Appeal and Programe by the Elders “to show the courage and determination to root out discrimination and change our world for the better.” http://theelders.org/womens-initiatives

“Religion and tradition are a great force for peace and progress around the world. However, as Elders, we believe that the justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a higher authority, is unacceptable.
We especially call on religious and traditional leaders to set an example and change all discriminatory practices within their own religions and traditions.”

  3. (PS. I especially like the advert that has popped up with David Beckham’s photo! Just kidding, of course! (about liking it 🙂

  4. At a glance, it looks nice as you wanted it to be. Off-white background and a nice font. But the multiple replies to a comment are as James described.

  5. Thanks for the feedback, I’ve changed the number of nested comments to three, which seems to be all this theme can handle. This fixes the problem for me, let me know if it’s ok for you, too!

    • You may want to see whether it is possible to shrink the right hand column which is probably not read by too many people anyway.

Overall a reduction in the font size may look better and address the nested comments issue as well??

    • Hello there,
I agree with Guptila, otherwise I like it, the lighter touch is less stressful for my eyes 🙂

  6. Ok, by popular demand, a somewhat compacted font size/line height; Changing the sidebar is not trivial, and anyway i don’t think it’s really a problem. Thanks for the feedback, i agree it’s better like this.
